It is only week two of the semester and it may seem unusual to be thinking about exam preparation at this stage but there are good reasons for approaching the semester this way.
Why You Need To Prepare Early
Firstly, an exam can make up to anywhere from 40% to 80% of your final grade so it deserves your full attention! The more time you can invest in preparing the better off you will be in achieving the best score at the end of the semester.
Secondly, compare this to an assignment where you might start preparing six to eight weeks before an assignment is due but the overall mark is only 20% – 60%. Compare this to exam preparation where an average student only starts preparing two weeks before the final exam. That doesn’t match to what your final exam is worth in your overall grade.

Finally, consider this, a sports team doesn’t start preparing and training for finals the week before they start. No, every week they are training to look at areas they can improve upon so by the time the finals approach they are performing at their best.
Start With Improving From Last Semester
In week 2 it may be hard to see what preparation you need to do at this point. You can however always start with improving over what went wrong last semester (or what went right). Do you perform poorly in the exam? What are your reasons for that? Do you score less than expected on that last assignment? What can you do this semester to give it an extra bit of polish and get a distinction instead of a credit.
Improvement starts with self-reflection. From self-reflection create your own action plan so you can get the most out of your preparation and studies.
